Requited Love? / Erwiderte Liebe?

After all the horrors I imagined to be lurking inside the August Knipmode No. 5 blouse, I was quite pleased. There are some issues I need to work on, but I felt I could wear it in public.

Sigrid's attempt had warned be about some drafting issues with the collar, so I did this:
This caused a new problem though. You can see that the markings for the slit to let the tie through start higher than the collar. This got worse once I had attached the ties.
On finding that one tie would go round completely I decided to close the blouse with snaps.
These snaps are on the underside, the plastic one in the picture above holds the tie. And I am now completely of Nancy K's opinion that ties do leave an aftertaste of girl's pinafore.
I was quite happy with the material I chose. A micro fibre with enough stand to hold its own without interfacing, and feeling like washable silk. And I had serging cones in the same shade so I could do a rolled hem. If and when I use this pattern again, I'll use much more interfacing, because I don't want to look this blouse like this version from Knipmode:

Next time I'll finish the armscye with facings, because they will not pucker as much as the bias binding. And I'll gather the collar instead of creating ad hoc pleats, but this micro fibre would have kicked and screamed had I attempted to gather it.

A Fatal Obsession/Eine fatale Besessenheit

Do you know the kind of woman who always picks the wrong man? Her partners cannot commit, they don't know what they want, or if they do, they refuse to talk about it, they sleep around and leave a tearstained wreck behind. But next time round the woman sees a guy, thinks he oozes masculine mystique, until she finds out it is pure poison. You know how it is - and the onion has encapsulated the phenomenon in this hilarious video.

Hot New Relationship Book Warns Women: 'Wake Up! He's A Shapeshifter'
I used to be a bit like that, but consider myself cured now. Now think of my horror, when it happened again the other day. Thank goodness, this time around, it is not a bloke, but a blouse.

My gut reaction: I want to look like that. I ordered the Knipmode issue. Then Sigrid made the blouse and found that the pattern may be faulty. With a tiny remnant of judgement I could see why she was not entirely happy with the pattern. But most of me just drooled over The Blouse. Last night I hardly slept for thinking about The Blouse. I read a little, got drowsy, switched off the light, closed my eyes and instantly it was there before me. Half my stash was turned into The Blouse. Could I add sleeves? Can it turn into a dress? Will I manage to change the pattern so it looks like the line drawing?
Meine erste Reaktion: So will ich aussehen.
But The Blouse is all wrong for me. Years and years ago I made a solemn vow never to attempt princess seams that start in the armscye, because with my small shoulders and relatively big ribcage I found them tricky to fit. And till now I was never even remotely tempted. Small shoulders mean that I may have to change the proportions of the collar. Normally I stay clear of anything with a defined waist, because I don't have one. Again, adapting the pattern for my short waist may wreak havoc with the proportions of the collar. But I want The Blouse regardless.

Summer Dress/Sommerkleid

Another vintage pattern that intrigued me. It had my favorite darts. I have since learned that they are called French darts in English. I wonder whether they have a German name.

This is the second dress I made from this pattern. I'm still not entirely happy with it. I'll show you the first attempt when it comes out of the wash. The fabric is a thin cotton sateen with just enough lycra to have left out the zipper. Considering that I took these photos after a day at work it holds up well enough, I think.

Oh dear, the side seam! I added some width to the back and to the back only so I should not be surprised that the side seam is all over the place. I need that width to keep me fairly decent on the bicycle, but I did not wish to change the silhouette of the original pattern.
I used my ladder as a tripod. The results are not brilliant, but they still give me hope for the upcoming self-stitched September.
